Katherine Johnson

On Tuesday of last week (February 24th, 2020), the world was shocked to learn of the loss of one of NASA’s most exemplary computers, Katherine Johnson. At 101, she had accomplished things once thought impossible. An American hero, she was an astonishing woman who did trajectory analysis for Alan Shepard’s Mission Freedom 7 in May of 1961, and was the first woman in the Flight Research Division to receive credit as an author of a research report.
